Our study will be on the sea and land, with emphasis on the sky. Your piece can be hooked in wool strips or yarn. The choice is yours! You choose the scene or the subject matter. You choose the material (wool, yarn, - new or recycled wool). You choose the method on how you approach your pictorial/seascape. Wide cut, fine cut, realistic, impressionistic, primitive. The choice is yours.
Special attention will be given to the SKY. Creating a beautiful sky using new, recycled wool, or pre dyed yarns; then using a mix of yarns, wools, or creative stitches to complete your project. 1. Sky – Paint on wool (with dye) and hook into the scene. 2. Sky – Create a beautiful sky using recycled wool, or pre dyed yarns; using a mix of yarns, wools, or creative stitches to complete your project. 3. Sky & complete background of your project (eg: water/sky) painted; then the hooking is done on the dyed wool piece with a #3 cut or with yarn. Please note: If you decide to do it using #3 method, NO foundation (burlap, linen required) - your foundation will be your natural wool. This will give a 3-D effect. You may also choose to do one or two miniatures in this class, rather than a large mat. Wow, a variety of techniques, a learning experience, and plenty of fun throughout the week, for you to enjoy! If this sounds interesting to you, please register for fall school. I look forward for the opportunity to work with you in the class - "THE SKY'S THE LIMIT"!

̀̀̀̀̀̀ It’s All About Wool—Start to FinishBeginner to Intermediate LevelIn this class you will be having hands on learning with the skirting of the wool, scouring, dyeing and this will be done with some natural and acid dyes. You will be learning how to spin from a spinning rod then a drop spindle then there will be a spinning wheel there so you will have some individual time on that. Our goal is for everyone to learn how the wool can be made and used. Then how to add into our hooking and give us the look that we want, the texture and technique that we have to use for hooking with curls sluby or yarn. I will be giving mini lectures in the mornings and you will be given handouts. Patterns can be of your choice or I will have some available. Any type will do {but remember you are playing with textures}.
Plan for a lot of laughter, fun and a great learning experience! There is a story to be told when we get started and it is a beautiful one I hope that you will enjoy this class and go away with a feeling of going back in time, but also of learning something old and adding a new twist to rug hooking! Biography – Vicki Graham, Brier Island N.S. I am currently an Associate Teacher of the RHGNS; I am also a member of the NSRHG Teacher Branch. I have taken many courses to enhance my style of rug hooking. I used to paint and work in with other crafts such as designing my own sweaters and also other mediums but when I was introduced to rug hooking it was like I had found my soul mate fiber became my way of letting my creative side out. I own the business Hooking by the Sea Retreats, which specializes in experiential tourism and helping people learn about the history of hooking and also the process of making yarn. My specialty is about the processing and use of wool that comes from Cotswold Sheep. I love many styles of hooking but the one that I really enjoy the most is teaching how to add textures and different techniques. That is were the roving, yarn and loose curls come into play. I have been teaching many workshops over the last 3 yrs. You will find me at my home studio creating or dyeing wool or having a hook-in.
